Capital City CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) trains and supervises community volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in Cole County, many of whom are unable to live safely in their homes. Appointed by the Juvenile Court Judge, each CASA volunteer is assigned just one case at a time, providing the careful, individualized attention that every child deserves.
Children who have a CASA volunteer have an invaluable ally to stand by them, a strong advocate who will collect information about their individual history, collaborate with other system professionals, and present their findings and recommendations in all court proceedings for as long as the case remains open.
Your contributions are an essential part of providing this necessary service to the most vulnerable children in our community.
CASA provides ongoing training, support services for volunteers, supplies for children’s needs, and community outreach to ensure the organization can facilitate relationships that ensure the best needs of our community’s children are being met.
$100 a month
Will help Capital City CASA meet the needs of one more child.
A CASA volunteer can offer comfort and consistency to a child adjusting to a new placement, explore services that promote their healing and well-being, and stand up for their best interests in the courtroom. This support leaves a lasting impact on a child’s future.
$300 a month
Will help train one new CASA Volunteer.
A CASA volunteer completes an interview, 2 background checks, a 30-hour training, and attends a family support team meeting and a court hearing, and gets sworn in as an Officer of the Court by a judge, all before being assigned to a child. Once assigned, just one CASA volunteer can have a positive ripple effect in the child’s life. The dedicated advocacy helps establish the consistent, compassionate care every child deserves.
$1500 a year
Will provide a CASA volunteer to a child for one year.
Annually, a CASA volunteer will visit the child approximately 12 times, participate in 12 family support team meetings, and advocate for the child’s best interests during 4 court hearings. A CASA volunteer invests time in building trust with the child, connecting with teachers, therapists, and others involved in the child’s care to ensure their needs are met. The CASA volunteer visits the child monthly, engages with their interests and activities, stays connected with key people in the child’s life, attends family support team meetings, and submits a comprehensive report for the judge’s consideration. The CASA volunteer is the child’s voice in court, offering their perspective on the child’s needs and circumstances to assist the judge in making decisions that prioritize the child’s well-being. The CASA volunteer spends about 8-10 hours each month providing advocacy and support. For many children, their CASA volunteer is the most reliable, caring adult they have in their life.
